A lot of the time when we are up against a situation that seems huge, we look around and see all the reasons why we can’t. Maybe we think that we’re not smart enough, not equipped enough, or don’t have enough money. What we see is our limitation. We see where we don’t measure up and all of our weaknesses.
In the Bible, the army of God was faced with a situation that seemed way bigger than them. They felt too small and unequipped to handle the giant Goliath and his fighting skills. The neat thing about this story is how David viewed the situation. Where everyone in the army of God saw lack and limitation, David saw an opportunity for God’s strength. In the story of David and Goliath, David chooses to side with God. He trusts that God was going to fight for Him. And because of David’s choice to see possibility instead of limitation, he saw God come through for Him in a major way and win the battle. You might be facing a situation or problem that seems huge. But today, be encouraged. Just like David, you’ve got a God who loves you and who is fighting on your side. Choose to see your problems as opportunities to see God move in your life. It’s a lot of fun so don’t miss out. Can you imagine being in another town that you’ve never been to before. You have no idea where to go or what to do. So you do what a lot of people do when they don’t know where they’re going. They pull out their phone or ask someone else to check out what Google maps has to say about where to go.
But what if you never got help from Google maps? What if you didn’t trust it’s directions? What if you decided you know more than the map and decide to go your own way. Well, unless you’re really lucky, you’d probably get lost without help and direction. That’s a lot like what this Bible verse is saying. It’s telling us to not think that we’re wise. We shouldn’t think that we can make decisions independently of God. Yet many times that’s what we do. We don’t get God’s help on our decision making. We don’t include God in our lives. We don’t run after Him and turn away from the things that keep us from Him. So challenge yourself today to turn away from things that keep you from God. Turn away from things that are bad and decide instead to run after God. Get His input and direction for your life. Choose to make Him your priority in life. Bro. We are asking our church family to bring a covered dish that morning. We will have a church wide luncheon after morning service to honor our grads. I’m looking forward to this service and I am also very proud of our graduates this year. Praise Team practice this Wednesday at 5:45. Please be on time. Have you ever thought about the fact that you’ve never actually seen yourself? Yes, you’ve seen yourself in a mirror but that was just a reflection. You have to look in the mirror and believe that what you see is the truth. If your hair is in place in the mirror then you have to trust that. In the same way, God has a different image of you than you can see on the outside. His image of you is made up of all the qualities that Jesus exchanged with you when you surrendered your life for His.
The Bible calls this transformation as a becoming a new creation. This verse in Ephesians describes that transformation. God calls us new in Christ and tells us that He’s planned good things for us. So regardless of what you’re going through, regardless of who’s put you down, and who’s told you that you’re not qualified, God sees you differently. He sees you through the mirror of Jesus and when He looks at you, He sees greatness. Bro. Brian Thank You! Our BBQ lunch was a success! We raised a little over $700. This money will help us with SOAR 2018 this July. Thank you again! If you have you are not alone. Many people wonder the same thing. So how can we know if God really exists?
Let’s start by looking at an everyday example. If you’re like many teenagers, you probably have a smartphone. All the parts that go into making the smartphone are too complex to just have “happened” one day. Your iPhone didn’t just show up in your living room. It had to be put together…it had to be created. The complexity of the phone shows that it had to have a creator. In the same way our world is complex. The trees, the oceans, animals and people that make it up are way too complex to just have “happened”. We can see that there was evidence of a creator in the world around us, but it is up to us to choose to believe that creator was God. There is nothing that 100 percent proves God’s existence. There is no scientific study that proves that God is real. If there was every person would believe God exists. We have to take what we see in creation and read about God in the Bible and we have to choose to believe it. That’s really the definition of faith. The Bible says it like this: By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:3 NIV) We see evidence of God’s existence all around us every day. The trees, the sun, the birds, all speak of a great creator. When you wonder if God is there or if He really does care about you, stop for a minute and examine the creation around you. God took the time to create each animal and plant and most of all He took time to create you! See you Wednesday! Bro. Brian Have you ever posted a photo on Instagram or Facebook? One of the things I really like about posting on social media are the filters. I like how a boring photo can look really amazing when a filter is added.
In life, we can look at ourselves and see our shortcomings. We can feel like we have little value or little worth. However, God just like Instagram has filters. He sees us through the filter of Jesus. He doesn’t see our sin, our failure or shortcomings. Rather He looks at us and sees a masterpiece. He sees that we are new in Christ Jesus and sees the good things that He has planned for us. Bro. Brian Church Announcements
Today’s verse is a challenge. It talks about us taking responsibility for what we say. It’s not up to God to watch what comes out of your mouth, or stop you when you’re about to say something bad. Today’s verse implies that this is our responsibility. It’s up to us to guard the words we speak.
We shouldn’t be letting any thought or feeling just fly out of our mouths. Instead, we should pay attention to what we speak and choose to speak life-giving words. Choose today to be more careful about what you say. Your words are powerful, so be sure that you’re using words that build others up and help them. Choose to speak words of life today! Bro. Brian BBQ Take note that our BBQ lunch had been changed to April 8th. We will have the lunch directly after morning worship. Thanks! |
