With a little over a week left until Christmas, I bet everyone is thinking about the excitement of how it will be to get those once a year goodies and snacks which are usually only cooked around this time. What about when you get to visit some of your most “interesting” relatives you only see around the holidays or family reunions. Last but not least, everyone’s favorite, getting to exchange gifts and receiving some new and cool things that really either excite you or put you first in line at the return desk. No matter what your favorite part of Christmas is, it is very important to remember to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is great to have fun and enjoy the Christmas season, but it is more important to remember why we have the season in the first place. Take some time for Jesus this Christmas season and reflect on the good gifts Jesus has given you instead of all the other gifts you have received. Don’t get me wrong, presents will make you happy and give you new and exciting things to wear and do, but they are only temporary. The gift that Jesus provides will last way beyond this lifetime and into eternity. Remember this and remember Him as Christmas day gets closer. Spend some time counting your blessings throughout this Christmas season.

When the baby Jesus was born, people came from miles around to present gifts to the newborn King. The wise men, who followed the North Star to Bethlehem, brought the gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh. Each gift was very luxurious and represented honor and glory for the baby Jesus. Others who came from the area also brought gifts to praise the new King and even those with little brought all they could to show their joy and love. It reminds me of the story of the Little Drummer Boy who was asked to play his drum for Jesus. He was a poor boy and had no gifts to bring, but he could play the drum. As he went before Mary, she gave him her blessing to play to Jesus and he played the drum the best he could. Since this was his gift to the King, he played like he never had before, and this made Jesus smile. This song has always been one of my favorite Christmas songs because of what it represents and even though the little drummer boy was poor, he gave all he could with his heart and because it was from his heart and he meant it, Jesus was pleased. This Christmas season, what gift will you present to Jesus?
Bro. Trent & Ms. Rebecca Have you ever thought about why donkeys get such a bad rap? Why do people generally think of them as just a silly old animal with big ears? When it comes down to it, a donkey means more in the Scriptures than what most people would imagine. If you remember, a donkey is what delivered the pregnant Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem on a cold and dark night when Jesus was born. What about when Jesus returned to Jerusalem riding on a donkey and the people greeted Him by laying down palm branches as He rode into town. One also cannot forget how God made a donkey actually speak to Balaam about why he was beating on him. These stories make the donkey look extraordinary when we see how the Bible portrays them. The donkey was actually a sign of wealth back in those days and the donkey is considered to be a very courageous and intelligent animal. This week we will take a closer look at this interesting animal and see it has more to offer than a goofy smile and a funny laugh. Bro. Trent & Ms. Rebecca |
