Distance Between You and God

4/24/2012

Define Distance- The extent of space between two objects or places; an intervening space.  When we think of distance, chances are we are usually thinking about how far we are away from a destination or place or person we would like to be.  Maybe you even think about how far away you are from your favorite restaurant when you are hungry.  Distance can also describe the amount of space between you and perhaps something you learned or in the process of learning, say for example your Christianity.   In other words, how much distance is between you and God?  Maybe it can’t be calculated in miles, but you know if He is truly in your heart each day you can feel Him.  God should become an experience within you, just like you feel when you go to your favorite vacation spot and truly have the time of your life.  If you are not close to God, then you can’t enjoy the luxuries of the life He has in store for you, so it is important for you to shorten the distance between you and Him so your life can and will have more meaning.

“To much distance between you and God means too much sin is keeping you from Him.”

YOUTH BBQ LUNCHEON
Thank you church family for another successful BBQ luncheon.  With your help we were able to raise $800 for our Mission trip to Nashville.  Please continue praying for us as we prepare to go where God leads us.

Why is Christianity Becoming Extinct?

4/18/2012

Have you ever thought why Christianity is dying away or becoming extinct? Why are Christians becoming the world’s most hated and persecuted culture? There are several answers to these 2 questions. First of all, hypocrisy is at the top of the list.  A lot of Christians see themselves on top and everyone else at the bottom when it should be the opposite.  Jesus set the example by becoming a servant and so should we.  Christians are being labeled and picked apart because we tend to find the faults in everyone around us, but never take the time to find our own.  Christians, who are trying to help others avoid the sin life, are usually wrapped up in their own. Also, where is the love?  God is love and we should show His love to others.  We are seeing more and more hate rather than love and too much giving up after the first try.  Patience and love have been sent to the back of the line, while resentment, self-centeredness, and anger are at the front.  And finally, God’s Word should never be excluded from anyone.  We are reaching the time where churches and Christians are judging others by what they see in others and forgetting the fact that God wants His Word to reach the ears of everyone.  We can’t keep our doors shut and discriminate those who need to hear the Word.  We have to reach out and gather the flock.  LAZINESS is taking over our Christian culture, and our so-called Christians just want a quick fix of Jesus so they can go on with their week.  We get out of Christianity only what we are willing to put in.

YOUTH BBQ LUNCHEON
This Sunday we are having a BBQ Luncheon to help raise money for our Summer Mission Trip.  We are using Bishop’s BBQ and plates are $7 each.  Each plate will include BBQ meat, bun, chips, slaw, baked beans, dessert, and tea.  This will be the final fundraiser for our trip and we hope to do well.  Your support will be appreciated.

How to Share Your Faith at Easter Time

4/2/2012

Did you know there's symbolic spiritual significance in a number of Easter traditions that have become widely accepted within secular culture? Understanding these traditions can provide you with a natural opening to talk about your faith with your friends. So stop a moment this week and think about the symbolic traditions that surface every year at Easter time and talk about their spiritual significance with others. Here are a few Easter traditions to consider:

Easter Eggs: The Easter egg represents new life - the new spiritual life in Christ that is possible as a result of Jesus' death and resurrection. The typical pastel colors of the Easter eggs further represent this theme of new life, calling to mind the pastel colors of spring and the new growth of buds and flowers as they burst forth with life after a long winter. The Apostle Paul described new life in Christ this way: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”(2Corinthians5:17).

Easter Egg Hunt: The hunt for Easter eggs serves as a symbol of each individual's need to seek and find new life in Christ. Seeking and finding are things Jesus taught about, but the treasure Jesus challenges us to seek far surpasses chocolate eggs or jelly beans. The treasure Jesus offers for those who seek spiritual truth is a treasure beyond measure, the gift of eternal life through His death and resurrection. And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks. (Luke 11:9-10)

Easter Lily: The pure white flower of the Easter lily represents the purity of Christ. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life as the Son of God. He offers us forgiveness of our sins through faith in Him, and in turn purifies us from our sin and 'washes us whiter than snow. “‘Come now, let us reason together,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.’” (Isaiah 1:18, NIV)
