Have you ever been on the losing end of something and never saw it coming?  Have you ever wanted something bad to happen to someone just because you can’t find it in your heart to like them?  We are discussing the story of John the Baptist this week and how he spent his life spreading the Gospel and not worrying about what the opposition thought about it. 

He went through great measures to present the Word of God throughout the land and despite all the people who were against him; it only took one to stop him.  Sometimes we go to extremes to prevent something from happening.  Maybe it has been you that has been so bitter at someone you would do whatever it took to stop them.  As we look at John the Baptist this week, you should look into your heart and see how far you would be willing to go to get your way.

Matthew 14:8 …”Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”

Have you ever been so mad at someone that you would have their head on a silver platter?

Matthew 18:20 says “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them”.  I know we have cheer camp and vacations this week, but don’t let the absence of others keep you from coming out to here God’s Word.  Don’t miss out this summer as we dig into God’s Word.  Summer is also a time of fun fellowship with your youth group.  We will spend some time doing both this week, so invite a friend and join us to see what God has in store!

SOAR RECAP July 18th PM Service
This Sunday night I will share with you a message on Discipleship.  What an awesome time we had at SOAR this year learning to give our all to Jesus and be His Disciples! I will also share a small portion of our mission work in Arlington, TX.  Don’t miss out on hearing how we can all become a sold out, 100%, all in, disciple of Jesus Christ!

On behalf of our SOAR students and sponsors, I want to thank our church and members for your support and prayers last week as we attended SOAR in Dallas, TX.  We had a wonderful time of fun, fellowship and God’s Word.  We spent a day with Mission Arlington cleaning a trailer park and leading out an afternoon VBS.  There were around 17 area children who joined us for a time of games, coloring, and a devotional from John 3:16.  What a blessing to watch our students give of their time to help others in need.  I am in awe of how God can transform the life of a teenager.   In Matthew, Jesus told Peter and Andrew as they were fishing to follow Him.  We learned about becoming a true disciple and of letting go of the nets that tie us down and turning our lives completely over to God and following His path.   As much as we want to take part in writing our life story, we learned to give the pen to God so He could write the story of the life He has planned for us.  Deny thyself, take up the cross and follow Him.  What powerful words to live by.  We are so unworthy but still He loves us and meets us where we are.  We could not have gone without your support and I am so thankful to have a church that loves and supports our students!  A BIG thank you to Mark Jenkins for going as a sponsor.  A special thank you to our junior sponsors, Mary, Hope, Laura and Cory for stepping up to help us out.  We are truly grateful to have such wonderful workers!

Praise band practice at 5:45 this week.  We are learning new music for the fall semester so please be on time and ready to lift our praises to God.

This week 17 of our students and sponsors are traveling to Dallas, TX to attend SOAR 2010.  The conference will begin Wednesday and will run through Friday.  Tuesday will be spent at Mission Arlington where we will spend the morning cleaning apartment complexes and the afternoon working a mini VBS for the area children.  We know God has big things in store this week.  Please join us in prayer for our students and the students from other churches for God to reveal Himself to us and open our hearts to what He wants us to see and hear.  Also, pray for our speakers and worship leaders and for the children we come in contact with at Mission Arlington.   We will return to Mantachie late Friday night.

Next week we will meet back in the Amphitheater for our regular Wednesday night services starting at 6:45pm.  We will have music, a message, and activities.  Please be faithful and come to hear what God has in store for you.
