Liquid Video Series: Crossing

“Change”
This week will begin a new video series from Liquid videos called Crossing. This series is designed to help us take the initiative to step out on faith and allow God to take control of our lives through our trust in Him. Crossing over requires us to dig deep and test our faith, courage, and obedience in God with the decisions we make. In lesson one, we see the story of a young girl who is moving from her home to unfamiliar territory and has to deal with changes that are involved. Change is something most of us do not like to deal with. We love our comfort zone, but sometimes God asks us to step out of our comfort zone and trust Him. This story and the other stories throughout this series will use the life of Joshua as He listened to and obeyed God as he began leading the Israelites after Moses death. God had a vision and plan for Joshua that required him to make changes in his life and get him out of his comfort zone in order to see God’s plans through. This series “Crossing” will explore the extraordinary things that can happen when we trust God and let Him lead the way.

Freedom of Expression

1/22/2015

The one thing I have always enjoyed about being a believer in Jesus is being able to express myself and my true feelings about my Christianity. To me, part of being a Christian is the joy I feel when I think about Jesus and all the good things He has done for me and my life. Sometimes I feel like David as he wrote in the Psalms 40 about how God can put a new song in our mouth, a hymn of praise that can help us to overcome our adversities and lead us into a new direction. Being able to burst into songs about our God and Savior is a wonderful way to express our love for Jesus. I sometimes can have something happen to me during the day that allows me to reflect on a certain passage of the Bible Scripture and I feel like quoting it out loud. Knowing the Bible and the power of its words is a valuable asset to our lives and shouldn't be taken lightly when it comes to defending our faith and fighting off Satan during our times of temptation and struggles. The last expression I want to make mention of is the freedom of prayer that all of us are given. Each day I am able to find times to pray to myself or out loud to my God. This helps my emotions knowing I can reach out to God anytime I choose and He will listen to my words and concerns and help to direct my steps throughout my life.

The expressions of singing praises, reading the Bible, and praying are valuable tools for any Christian to keep close to them on a daily basis. It is also valuable to use the tools throughout our lives in order to keep God close as we seek His protection from what Satan throws in our path. Don't be afraid to exercise your freedoms of expression when it is time and know that this will help you bring honor and glory to God.

"Don't be silent when it comes to expressing your feelings and love for God."

Living Life to the Fullest, in Christ

Have you ever wondered what the point of learning is? The point is to retain important information that can be used to help us throughout life. When we become Christians, we attend church and weekly Bible studies to gain knowledge to live out the life God created us for. In return we are to share this knowledge with others as part of our obedience to God. In Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV), it says, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” This verse tells us we are to remain doers of the Word and become stronger in our faith as we get older and wiser by reading the Scriptures and living out our lives through obedience in Him. Many Christians get on fire for God for a while, and then over time they lose their energy, focus, and motivation and fall into a backslidden state of mind. As a Christian we have a responsibility to remain faithful in our church attendance and Bible study in order to keep our minds sharp and our hearts pure and full of the Holy Spirit so we can live out this verse of Scripture with our lives. Are you living your life to the fullest in Christ? If not, it is time to reread this Scripture found in Colossians and remember what you need to be rooted and built up in. Anything else is not living up to God’s standards.

Make it Happen in 2015

I know what you're thinking: with the New Year comes new goals, resolutions, diet plans, dreams, and even aspirations of great changes that people seem to want to make.  You may even think about what happened last year when this new motivation started off strong then fizzled out within a few weeks and you thought, there's always next year. Was it laziness, lack of determination, or just lost interest and thought it would make a good goal for the next year? Whatever it was, we have all been there, done that. So why should this year be any different?  Maybe we didn't succeed because it was all about us.  We live in a world where it is all about me, me, me. It is easy to give up when we are trying to please ourselves. What we fail to do many times is set our goals to please God and not ourselves. What goals come to mind when we think about pleasing God.. faithfulness to church, Bible study, prayer, tithes and offerings, faith sharing, or even encouraging others who are lost or not in church. All of these things better us as individuals as well as please God for our efforts, so why not choose these commitments to begin a new year with?  I encourage you this year to make your commitments known to God and dedicate some changes in your life that will not only benefit yourself, but give yourself to God's purpose and work for His honor and glory.  I promise if you stick to it, God will bless you in 2015 to become a more dedicated Christian in serving your church and community.  Don't leave God out of the New Year.

May God bless you in 2015.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (NKJV)
