God’s Not Dead Study Series

This week we will conclude our God’s Not Dead study series with lesson 4 “Lean on Me”. As we discussed last week the importance of having the right friends in your life and what it means to stay close to positive influences. This week, we are looking specifically at having Jesus as our closest friend and doing whatever it takes to not turn our backs on Him. At some point in our lives we will be hurt or betrayed by one of our closest friends and learn how painful this feels. We will use this illustration by relating it to Jesus and how often we turn our backs on Him to follow influences that go in the opposite direction as Him. This lesson also gets into the topic of forgiveness and what it means not to hold grudges against those who offend and hurt us, but to pray for them and forgive them. We have had great response each week to these lessons and I hope each of our students will continue their positive feedback as we conclude this lesson study.

Choosing Friends Wisely
Remember Proverbs 18:24 as you choose the friends you hang out with as it says, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Be sure those who you hang out with believe the same things you do concerning Jesus. If not, you will probably be faced with a decision someday to choose your friends or Jesus…..which will you choose?

Our God’s Not Dead series takes us into the 3rd lesson this week dealing with relationships and peer pressure. 2 Corinthians 6:14 reminds us how important it is to have the same faith beliefs with our closest friends and those who influence us the most. It is easy to allow bad influences and peer- pressure to distract us when we try to stay close to God. How difficult is it for us to rid ourselves of the friends who tend to pull us away from God? We are tested by our faith in God verses our faith in our friends throughout our lives and it becomes necessary for us to avoid the peer pressures of negative influences and stand on God’s side when we need to. As we dive in to week 3 of this study series, ask yourself how many negative friends and influences you have in your life and what you need to do to separate yourself with them.

God’s Not Dead Study Series

As we began our God’s Not Dead study this past week, we looked at lesson 1 on taking a stand for God and how difficult this challenge can be due to peer pressure in the world. This week for lesson 2, we turn our attention to speaking out on God’s behalf and not ignoring Him in the presence of others. Jesus was clear when He said “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven” Matthew 10: 32-33. The same peer pressure we discussed in week one’s study can be the same peer pressure that keeps us from acknowledging God while in the presence of others. Sometimes we just have to simply speak out about who our God is and not be ashamed to share Him with others.

Smart Card Discount Sale
We are extending the sale of our Smart Cards and are reducing the price to $5.00 each. These cards contain discounts that can be used in Lee and Itawamba Counties. By paying the $5, you will receive both cards that are good to use through the end of July 2015. All money raised with the purchase of these cards will go toward student ministries and our mission trip next summer.
