As I stand in front of our youth group on Wednesday night, preparing to share what God has laid on my heart for the evening, I look into the faces of the students and I see a mix of emotions before I ever speak the first word. As I begin my message, I try not to be slightly distracted as I get mental pictures of what our students must be dealing with outside the walls of our church and how some of them are struggling so bad with school, life, the home, and relationships. Our younger generation is hurting with pains of broken homes, school bullying, and antisocialism and it hurts me to know what some of them deal with when they are not at church. When I consider what we have to offer them each week for about an hour verses what they receive the rest of their time, I feel overwhelmed with the responsibility to make each and every second count that is spent with our teenagers. They need guidance, Christian principles, fellowship, and most important, to be loved. Part of being a youth minister is to see things for what they are; through the eyes of a teenager. It becomes a painful scene to see one of my students struggling to get by or not knowing how to fit in because I have been exactly where they are and how the reality of it is. Teenagers need parents who will be parents and not just a friend, and to raise and teach their children properly, being supportive but being a loving role model to them along the way. I encourage our church family to pray not only for our students, but for our parents to set Godly examples for their children to follow.

We had our welcome back night for our students last week and arelooking forward to this upcoming school year. I feel as though we had a productive summer mixing up some great Christian movies and a couple of lesson videos. The summer has went by very fast, and it will be good to get into a stable routine of music, fellowship, and a weekly dose of God’s Word as our students start back to school. We are back to our normal schedule of 6:45 – 8:00 pm as our meeting time, so please make note of this.
We had our meet–n–greet last Wednesday where everyone got the chance to introduce themselves to unfamiliar faces. This night has always been a great night for our students to welcome each other and become familiar with students from other schools and to give an official welcome to our new 7th graders. We pray that God will be active in our youth program this year and we will see many students come to know Christ as Savior and to see our youth group grow and add new members to our church. Our adult workers this year are: Steve and Lisa Walters, Charles and Kayla Sanderson, and Scott Clouse. These workers have a heart and passion to work with our teenagers and need your prayers as they help me and Rebecca this upcoming year. Smart Cards Are Here!!!!!!!!! Trent & Ms. Rebecca School will start back this week and our students will return to the classroom anxious and ready for a brand new school year…….. or at least some of them will share this enthusiasm. It is however, time to pray for our beloved students, faculty, and schools to have a safe upcoming year. After resting up all summer, they should all be road ready to take on the challenges of a new school year and we need to do our part by supporting them on this journey with prayer and encouragement.
