open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such
blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”
One day, a young man appeared at the door of his missionary’s home in Africa. He was holding a fish on a string. When questioned about it, he said, “You taught us to tithe, so here is my tithe.” The missionary took the fish gratefully, but before the young man could leave, the missionary asked him, “Where are the other fish? If this is a tithe, shouldn’t there be nine other fish on this string?” “I’m going to catch them right now!” the young man replied.
This young man lived in expectancy! He knew that God was waiting to bless him. He planned on it, he acted on it, and he spoke of it with boldness, confidence, and faith.
In today’s passage, God speaks through Malachi, challenging us to test His faithfulness. When we follow God’s plan for giving, and return to Him what rightfully belongs to Him in the first place by tithing faithfully, He will amaze us. Give God a gift that is beyond your comfort zone, and see His blessings abound today.
Blessed be to God for the day of rest and religious occupation
wherein earthly things assume their true size.
