Dear Church,

You are invited to attend the North MS Senior Adult Conference, Friday, May 10th at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.  This will be a great time of fellowship and worship with special music by Stubborn Love and the message delivered by Bro. Anders Lee.  There will be door prizes given away throughout the day.  Catfish, chicken strips and all the trimmings will be served for lunch.

Registration begins at 9 a.m., with the fee being $15 per person.  While you are  registering, coffee and donuts will be available during the pre-conference fellowship time.  The conference will start at 9:30 a.m., and should end somewhere around 2:30 p.m.

It would help greatly if you would contact us by Monday, May 6th with an approximate count of how many from your church plan on attending.  Just let us know how many prefer fish, and how many prefer chicken when you call.  Contact Bro. Jackie @ 662-255-9187 or Bro. Tim @ 662-322-7679.  We look forward to seeing you on May 10th at Mt. Pleasant.

Sincerely – Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church

A Changeless God in a Senseless World

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom
there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17

No matter how dear your friends are, they can fail.  No matter how much money you have, you can go broke. No matter how diligently you exercise, you can get sick.  Your most trusted walking stick can break.  Your dearest dream can die.  Life is as uncertain as the clouds that gather and scatter.  It’s as fickle as the waves of the ocean.

How sad to be in a senseless world without a changeless God.  We have a God with whom there is no variation nor shadow of turning.  He doesn’t have shifting moods, bad days, “oops” moments, momentary breakdowns, or
changes of mind or heart.  He’s as consistent as a plumb line, as steady as a rock, and as unchanging as eternity.  He is as He has always been and will always be.  Forever He is enthroned in the highest, and forever His
Word is fixed in the heavens.

Our forefathers walked with God and so can we.  So can our children.  He’s the same in every generation.  His promises cannot fail, His presence cannot dim, His power cannot wane.  We can trust Him completely.

Culture changes. Churches change. Life changes. God doesn’t.

The Small Gift

4/10/2013

Rev. Chalfant tells of a couple who were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.  The husband was asked what the secret was to his successful marriage.  As the elderly are wont to do, the old gentleman answered with a story.

His wife, Sarah, was the only girl he ever dated.  He grew up in an orphanage and worked hard for everything he had.  He never had time to date until Sarah swept him off his feet.  Before he knew it she had managed to get him to ask her to marry him.

After they had said their vows on their wedding day, Sarah’s father took the new groom aside and handed him a small gift.  He said, “Within this gift is all you really need to know to have a happy marriage.”  The nervous young man fumbled with the paper and ribbon until he got the package unwrapped.

Within the box lay a large gold watch.  With great care he picked it up.  Upon close examination he saw etched across the face of the watch a prudent reminder he would see whenever he checked the time of day…words that, if heeded, held the secret to a successful marriage.  They were, “Say something nice to Sarah.”

A Gift of Roses

An attractive young lady was surprised one day when she received a gift of roses from a wealthy woman.  Upon opening the box she was amazed that the roses were wilted and the petals were falling off.  Perhaps the flowers had been packed a few days earlier and then neglected.  Later that day she met the old woman on the street and thanked her for the flowers.  The older woman smiled, and said “I cut them last Monday and enjoyed them all the week, then I thought of you and had them sent to you.”  Seeing the puzzled and hurt look on the girl’s face she continued, “The other evening I was sitting in the car as you walked by, I heard you telling someone that you wanted to become a Christian later, but not while you are still young.  You said you wanted to have a good time first.  In other words, you wished to give the Lord your life after the beauty and charm have faded and you have become old and wrinkled.  I thought these roses would be an illustration of what you are doing in relation to the Lord……… FADED ROSES.
